Mark and Dearnne's wedding lead up was full of excitement and planning! Like every wedding, there is so much to organise... however Mark and De were getting married in FIJI!! Organising a wedding can be hard at times, but imagine the pressure of not meeting the people involved before your big day!
Mark and De chose to get married on the perfect little getaway, Treasure Island, FIJI. Having a small ceremony filled with close friends, meant this venue was ideal! With a beautiful little chapel on the island and surrounded by that perfect Fiji backdrop... you couldn't imagine a more perfect place!
In the days leading up to the wedding, Fiji and the surroundng areas were hit with a rather vicious cyclone. I heard news ofthe cyclone but Mark and De had already left for Fiji, so I had to pack my bags and be ready for anything! Not knowing what the weather was like over on the island, we boarded the plane from brisbane airport only 2 days before the wedding! Arriving in Nadi, we were informed that the marina had been closed due to the weather and we were unale to get across to Treasure Island! Distress hit in as I worried that I wouldn't be able to make it to capture Mark and De's special day! We contacted the resort and I messaged Dearrne to let them know what was happening. We looked at every option (including a last minute helicopter ride!) only to be informed that NOTHING was running for that day and possibly not the next!
We hauled up at a hotel close to the airport for the night and early the nect morning we got a rush phone call saying be at reception NOW to check out, we have half an hour to get you to the marina to catch the ONLY boat out for the day!
We made it on time, jumped on board and had a pretty scary 2.5hr trip around the islands until we finally made it to Treasure! The island had a tiny boat meeting the Catamaran, and after a few attempts with the boats going up and down a metre or more, we finally jumped and sat down! Camera strapped to my body hoping we didn't capsize! Turned towards the front and camera on back to stop the spray wetting it everytime the boat went up and down we had what seemed like a 20 minute ride (probaly only 5 mins) struggling against the waves and finally made it to this peaceful, magnificent little island!
Having never met Mark and Dearrne in person, we said a quick hello when checking in and made way to our room. Checking all our gear was dry and not damaged!!
We met up with the Bride & groom that afternoon for a little chat about what the day would entail and we prepared for the big day ahead!
Because the marina had closed again after our boat, Dearnne's hair & makeup artist couldn't make it to the island... and neither could her flowers!!! Luckily, the minister was still on his way and managed to bring the flowers with him... but alas we had noone to do hair & makeup. A friend stepped up for the hair and I ran around trying to find what little makeup we had to ensure Dearnne felt as beautiful on her big da as she looked!
The ceremony was perfect. The staff singing and the waves crashing as Dearrne walked down to the man of her dreams. The look on Marks face said it all!
The rest of the day went perfectly (although we could only use half the island in fear the bride might be blown away with the strong winds!) and managed to get some beautiful memories captured! Just as we were about to do our last few shots, the rain came bucketing down and we decided that it was time to rest and relax and for the bridal group to enjoy a quiet drink before their reception.
All in all, it was a beautiful, fun, exciting day and I am so grateful to Mark and Dearrne for allowing me to be able to capture their special day.
I feel truly honored everytime I am chosen for and session, but especially a wedding as this is such an important day.
Congratulations Mr & Mrs Rankin... and I wish you all the best for your lives together <3
