What an amazing couple Vanessa and Ben are. The strength they show and the determination to never give up... no matter how hard things seems is so admirable. Their journey to this point has been one of a nightmare. IVF struggles that would rock anyone. But they never gave up. They are here... at the end of that long road, about to embark on the most amazing journey... with beautiful twins and a gorgeous little new!
I have known Vanessa for years. She is the very talented photographer of Vanessa Brown - Photographer. Now when I say I've 'known' Vanessa, I mean in a Facebook, mutual friends, photography group, watch from a distance kind of way. I've seen their strengths and their struggles over the last few years, and admired their persistence in not giving up on what they desire. So to finally meet Vanessa, Ben & Anabelle & Zavier was just incredible. I have not only admired Vanessa in a personal sense, but in a professional sense too, for so long. We'd talked and watched each others lives change over that time... that we almost felt like we had already met. It seems strange that a 3 hour drive to capture them at Vanessa's favorite flowers was the first time we were actually meeting in person! Thankfully... it already felt comfortable. We chatted, giggled and cursed as we drove for HOURS to find a sunflower field. All the normal fields Vanessa & Ben used were gone. The season was almost over... but we had come this far and were NOT giving up ...we were so close!
Sunset was looming, we had 20 mins left of light and we stumbled across a field of sunflowers that had blown probably just the day before. Our last chance! There were a few clumps of flowers still standing, so we found the best 3... jumped through the fence (which when you see a 36 week pregnant woman with a maternity drape rolling under a barb wire fence... you get the giggles ~ see there's that determination again!!) and high tailed it for the flowers. 20 mins later, hoping like crazy we managed to get at least a few good ones in the failing light... we rolled back through the fence, jumped in our cars and headed back for home. 4.5hrs of driving for a 20 minute shoot! Were we CRAZY!!?
Luckily... the photos were just magic! And even more special, because after the long hard road to get here... this little koala bub was the last to join the Brown clan... and so worth the effort!
I am so happy with the results, and the fact that with Vanessa & I both being stubborn photographers who never give up... we came across some magic. This magic will be with Vanessa & Ben forever and the final step in creating their perfect little family.
