Im sure in the year 2021, you've all heard that every photographers WORST nightmare, is uncle Bob jumping up right as the couple have their first kiss to take a photo on his phone, only to block the photographer and they miss this shot altogether!
Not only is it our worst nightmare, but it quickly turns into yours too... because unless uncle Bob is a professional wedding photographer, his iPhone snap is NOT going to stand up! This is why most photographers will recommend an unplugged ceremony! You pay us, and most of the time it's quite a lot of money... but regardless of the price tag, it's your hard earned cash! You expect us to capture the most important parts of your day... and fair enough too! BUT... if the ceremony is not unplugged, we run the risk of having these situations comes up... and it's completely out of our hands!
Now, I'm usually a get the photo at all costs kinda person! But there is a limit haha! I have been known to run and step in front of good old uncle Bob to make sure I don't miss it... but I have also had uncle Bob push ME out of the way so he didn't miss it!
You pay us, as photographers, to be there to capture these moments, so that your guests, who are your closest family and loved ones, can enjoy your special day with you! Having us there, takes the pressure off everyone, and leaves you sure that you will have those priceless memories forever.
By all means, at the reception and even during the congratulation cuddles after the ceremony... encourage people to take out their phones and snap the memories! These are often times the little things that we might miss... because a congratulation cuddle is only there for a second, and the couple are often in different spots! So a good old selfie is a fantastic way to capture those moments... and of course at the reception, everyone tends to get a little more relaxed and in the moment... and some of these selfies are priceless memories! But in my humble opinion... the ceremony should be a no phone zone!
But one moment that should NEVER be missed, is sending your partner a beautiful message before you walk down the aisle! Just make it authentic and totally you!
